And so, J arrives home from deployment today. He is making his way back to me as I type. The end came suddenly, which is the best way. All of sudden I looked at my calendar and asked, "Wait, what? June 4? That's 14 days from now!"
It was a long 7 months. It was a long and hard 7 months. There were moments that I couldn't believe it possible to smile through another day. There were moments when my knees went weak when the doorbell rang. And like last time, I learned more about myself, about my marriage, and about life in general.
1) I have the best dog ever. But you knew that. And I knew that. But he is.
2) Stress really does cause wrinkles. Who knew?
3) Hiring someone to mow your yard is much easier than doing it yourself.
4) If you don't start a car for a really long time, the battery dies. (You'd think this lesson would have carried over from last year...but it didn't.)
5) I can still replace a car battery by myself (see above).
6) Good friends make hard times easier. Champagne helps too.
7) The hands-down strongest women I know gave birth during this deployment. Their husbands will meet their sons for the first time tonight.
8) Saving money is really just as fun as spending it.
9) I now know how to buy a house. We close in July (whoop!).
10) Love is, and always will be, an adventure.
Thanks so much for all the love and support.
Semper Fi,
Katie & Hank
